Barrileras, Inc. wrapped up its eventful year with the highly anticipated Santa's Barrels 2023 event, held at Ranch AA in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. This festive occasion brought together barrel racing enthusiasts and families alike for a day of spirited competition and community camaraderie.

Athletic Feats and Exciting Challenges

Santa's Barrels 2023 showcased the talents of 11 dedicated participants who competed across multiple thrilling obstacles. Athletes demonstrated their agility and skill in traditional barrel racing, navigated precision in the keyhole race, showcased speed and maneuverability in pole bending, and tackled the challenging Big T event.

Community Spirit and Family Fun

The event was not only about competitive spirit but also fostered a warm, family-friendly atmosphere. Spectators of all ages gathered to cheer on the competitors, enjoying food, music, and activities throughout the day. Participants and attendees alike praised the event for its inclusive nature and the sense of community it fostered among participants and spectators. Barrels

Dimensions:

• 70' between barrels 1 and 2; 90' to the third barrel; 40' from the timer to the 1st barrel. (40'x70'x90')

• Minimum of 15' between barrels and fences and 30' between the 3rd barrel and fence.

• Open space for stopping.

Rules:

1. Three runs with individual times in each round and an overall average.

2. 5-second penalty for each knocked-down barrel.

3. "No Time" penalty for incomplete runs or going off course or pattern.

Pole Bending

Categories:

• Youth: 5-15

• Open: 16+

Dimensions:

• 6 poles set 21 feet apart each (21'x7).

• 21 feet from the timer to the first pole.

• Minimum of 30 feet between the fence and the last pole.

Rules:

1. A single race. The fastest time is the winner.

2. The rider crosses the starting line, goes to the 6th pole, weaves back through the poles, turns, weaves back through the poles to the 6th pole, turns, and crosses the finish line.

3. There is a 5-second penalty for knocking down each pole. Poles are not reset during the race.

Keyhole

Categories:

• Youth: 5-15

• Open: 16+

Dimensions:

• Race distance of 100 feet.

• The poles measure 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, with 20 feet from the last pole to the fence (enough space to turn safely), and enough space to stop after the finish line.

Rules:

1. A single race. The fastest time is the winner.

2. The rider crosses the starting line, goes through the poles without knocking them down, and turns within a 20' perimeter.

3. There is a penalty of "No Time" for knocked-down poles and/or failure to go through the poles directly.

Categories:

• Youth: 5-15

• Open: 16+

Dimensions:

• Min 30 ft from back fence to barrels.

• Min 15 ft from side fences to barrels.

• 70 - 90 feet between barrels (depending on arena space). 

• 45 ft from the last poles to the adjacent 90ft line.

• 21 ft spacing from timer line to first pole;

• 21 ft separation between all 3 poles.

Rules:

• The fastest time to successfully complete the pattern is the winner.

• Rider crosses the start line, through the pole pattern into a figure 8 pattern between the barrels; and returns through the pole pattern to the finish line.

• 5 Second penalty for each knocked down pole or barrel.

• 3 Knocks constitute a “No Time” penalty (disqualification).
