Kickoff Event- January 21, 2023
"On January 21, 2023, Barriler@s, Inc launched its rodeo competitions at Hacienda Siesta Alegre in Rio Grande. Nineteen riders participated in the event. The association organized this activity with the goal of encouraging riders to explore a highly popular sport in the United States, revitalizing a sport that has been celebrated in Puerto Rico for many years despite its decline over time. They also aimed to promote awareness of their vision and mission as a non-profit organization on the island, marking their return as affiliates of the National Barrel Association (NBHA) after a 10-year absence from international participation."

Barrels
Dimensions:
70' between barrels 1 and 2; 90' to the third barrel;
40' from the timer to the 1st barrel. (40'x70'x90')
Minimum of 15' between barrels and fences, and 30' between the 3rd barrel and the fence.
Open space for stops.
Rules:
Three runs with individual times in each round and total average.
5-second penalty for each knocked-over barrel.
"No Time" penalty for unfinished event or off-course or pattern.
Awards:
Top cash prize and gifts for the best individual times per rider in the OPEN category. The best time of each rider will be taken.
Recognition for the top 3 times in each round.
Recognition for the best average times. Any team with a "No Time" penalty does not qualify for average time recognition.

Pole Bending
Categories:

Dimensions:
6 poles spaced 21 feet apart each. (21'x7)
21 feet distance between timer and first pole.
Minimum 30 feet distance between fence and last pole.
Rules:
Single run. The fastest time wins.
The rider crosses the starting line, heads to pole number 6, bends back through the poles, turns, bends through the poles back to number 6, turns, and crosses the finish line.
There is a 5-second penalty for knocking down each pole. Poles are not rearranged during the run.
Awards:
Trophy for the top 3 places per category.

Distance of 100 feet race;
Poles measure 5 feet wide and 10 feet long, with 20 feet from the last pole to the fence (enough space for a safe turnaround), and ample room to stop after the finish line.
Rules:
Single run. The fastest time wins.
The rider crosses the starting line, enters the poles without knocking them down, and turns within a 20-foot perimeter.
There is a "No Time" penalty for knocked down poles and/or failure to enter the poles in a straight stretch.
Awards:
Trophy for the top 3 places per category.
Ribbons for 4th and 5th place per category.

MOUNTED DUMMY ROPING
Category: Open - all
Dimensions:
Distance of 90 feet race;
At 90 feet from the starting line is a barrel, and 15 feet from the barrel is a mock calf to the right of the barrel.
Rules:
Single run. The fastest time wins.
The rider who manages to reach the calf and correctly rope it qualifies their time.
Failing to rope the calf results in a "No Time" penalty.
Awards:
Ribbons for the first 3 places.
