Passion for Rodeo : On January 13, 2024, the vibrant atmosphere of the rodeo filled the air at Hacienda Margarita, Luquillo as Barrileras, Inc. held its season kickoff event. For its second consecutive year, the association brought together 32 riders , each with the determination to shine on the barrel arena.


Aspirations and Dreams : The main objective of the event was to inspire participants to join as members of Barrileras, Inc. and aspire to qualify for the prestigious competitions of the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) in the United States as well as participate in Multicultural Exchanges. From young talents as young as 5 years old to veterans in the sport, everyone shared the common goal of reaching new heights in rodeo.


Community and Growth : Barrileras, Inc., a non-profit organization passionate about promoting rodeo and specializing in barrel events, gymkhana and other western events, has big plans for the future. With an ambitious goal of reaching 50 members in its first three years, the association celebrates diversity and inclusion in a sport that welcomes everyone, regardless of the type of horse.


“This event is not only a competition, but a celebration of the rodeo community,” shared Keyri Lee Matta, President of Barrileras, Inc. “It's incredible to see our family grow year after year, and we are excited for what the future holds.” awaits us."

The official categories for Barrels are:

  • Youth: 5-12

  • Teens: 13-18

  • Adults: 19+

  • Open: All

Barrels

Dimensions:
  • 70' between barrels 1 and 2; 90' to third barrel; 40' from the clock to the 1st barrel. (40'x70'x90')

  • Minimum of 15' between barrels and fences and 30' between 3rd barrel and fence.

  • Open space for stops.

Rules:
  1. Two rounds with individual times in each round and total average.

  2. Penalty of 5 seconds for each knocked down barrel.

  3. "No Time" penalty for event not completed or out of course or pattern.
