The 787 Arena in Ponce was filled with excitement during our 787 Arena Barrels & More event. With 11 talented participants competing in a variety of thrilling barrel racing competitions, it was a day full of energy, skill, and camaraderie.

The event lineup included Barrels, the crowd-favorite where riders showcased their speed and precision. The Adop a Pro segment paired participants with experienced professionals, creating a unique and educational experience for all. The exciting Hourglass challenge tested riders’ agility and technique as they navigated the intricate course. Finally, the Team Relay of 4 brought the audience to their feet, with teams working together in perfect harmony to complete the course as quickly as possible.

Additionally, there was a Dummy Team Roping demonstration, designed to introduce riders interested in honing their roping skills. This practice was a great opportunity for learning and for getting more riders involved in this exciting rodeo discipline.

It was a day to remember, filled with action and unity within the rodeo community. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success, and we look forward to the next one at 787 Arena!

Team Saddle Relay

Category:
  • Open: All

Dimensions:
  • Step 1: 20' from the timer to the first pole;

  • Step 2: poles are spaced 21' apart from each other;

  • Step 3: minimum of 20' between the fence and barrels, with 90' distance between them;

  • Step 4: minimum of 20' between the fence and barrels, with 70' distance between them. (Note: the measurements of the Hourglass pattern are used).

Rules:
  • One single race. The fastest time wins.

  • Number of participants: 3 riders and 3 horses.

  • The event requires the team to work together, passing a baton and navigating obstacles without knocking them over to achieve the best time in the shortest period. NO BUYBACK for this event.

Requirements:

  • Saddlers must be 13+ years old, able to reach the horse’s back, and know how to saddle properly. Saddlers do not pay.

Course Description:

  • The race begins at the start/finish line with one horse and two riders. The horse is unsaddled, wearing only a bit. Two riders are stationed at the other marked points.

  • Once the first group grabs their horse and the equipment to saddle it, and crosses the line, the timer starts. They must ensure they do not backtrack across the timer; if they do, they incur a 3-second penalty.

  • Once the horse is properly and securely saddled, the rider mounts with the baton to begin Step 2: The Pole Run.

Penalties:

  • Knocking over poles or barrels results in a 3-second penalty.

  • If the baton is dropped, one of the riders must dismount, pick it up, and pass it properly. There is no penalty for a dropped baton as the delay in retrieving and passing it serves as a consequence.

Step 2 - The Pole Run: The rider weaves through the poles in a zigzag, then makes a long loop around all the poles before reaching the next rider to pass the baton. The course can begin from either the left or right side.

Step 3 - The Barrel Run: The rider follows the illustrated pattern, passing around the 1st barrel and then around the 2nd barrel towards the final fence, where the last rider is stationed to receive the baton.

Step 4 - Barrel Round and Pole Run to the Final Finish Line: The rider can choose which side to make a full turn around the barrel, then enters from outside the 1st pole towards the final finish line.
